Carefully spend county funds for essential communtiy services–our libraries, parks, recreation centers, human services for the needy and disabled, public safety, schools, and safety-net help for needy Arlingtonians
Halt spending on wasteful building project that we cannot afford: stop the $160 million trolley up Columbia Pike; the $80 million water park on an industrial site in Crystal City; and the $10 million for a money-losing performance theatre in the empty Nuseum builidng in Rosslyn.
Transform Arlington into a Leading Green Environmental Community
Ban free, non-biodegradable plastic bags in all retail stores and supermarkets
Fine commercial businesses and apartment operators that refuse to recycle their solid waste (bottles, cans, plastics, and paper) since only 12% of apartment waste is now recycled.
Start a free energy audit program to help all Arlington renters, homeowners, and businesses reduce their use of electricity and heating fule, thereby reducing Arlington’s harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
Block any widening of I-66 highway in Arlington by a county lawsuit against the Va Department of Transportation (VDOT), and seeking the transfer of the $35 million in Federal highway funds to repair Arlington aging bridges and streets.
Preserve Existing Rental Housing and Help Tenants Remain in Arlington
Create and fund a centralized, well-run, cost-effective housing agency in Arlington that will help low and moderate income renters remain in Arlington
Re-organize the county’s scattered and wasteful housing programs
Seek out the millons of dollars of Federal funds available for public housing that other No Va
areas already receive.
Preserve historic garden apartment complexes

Enact a voluntary living wage guideline for all private employers to insure that all workers in Arlington earn at or above the federal poverty level (currently about $12.50 per hour), as is required for all county employees.

Appoint qualified independent, Green Party, Democratic and Republican citizens to county advisory commissions to have balanced citizens’ views. The Democratic Party has ruled Arlington for over 30 years.
End the Iraq War Now: A County Board Resolution To Congress and the President
As a member of the county board, I will introduce a resolution to Congress and the President asking them to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, and to Further withdraw U.S. military recruiters from Arlington public schools.
